This is a super cool, very well built, very rare 1960rambler american 3 door hot rod in extremely nice, low mile condition. Excellentquality custom build. Rebuilt 350 motor and 4speed overdrive auto... Nice set upwith perfect gearing all around... Great power off the line and will cruisehighway speeds all day. This is a rare 2 year model... It is a very nice quality professional v8 conversion andit shows throughout. The car looks great and runs/feels amazing. Definite dailydriver capable... Excellent weekend cruiser, show car, or addition to anycollection. It's a driver not a trailer queen and will hold its own atcruises and local shows... Not much to make it a big show winner. I love the carbut just bought a 4 car package from a museum and need to make space... Severalhot rods are going on the block. Body is super straight with no rust orcollision damage that i can see. Seams and rubbers are great and the body, trim,moldings etc are well in tact. Frame pans and chassis are clean and solid. It's drive in show ready... Interior is fabulous aswell. The amx is so much more than merely a shortened javelin. Paint and bodywork are every bit as spectacular as they look in photos (quite likely even better) and it's incredibly rare to see this kind of investment in an amx, both in terms of time and money. It's just plain slick with details like the hood scoop, fluted rocker moldings that look like side pipes, and the full-width taillight that makes the amx look wide and low. The overall look is aggressive and powerful, like a coiled spring ready to explode off the line, and the car definitely commands attention out on the road, even if a lot of folks don't even know what they're looking at. It's an exceptionally cool car made even more so by its rarity. First off, red is a very rare choice in any amx and we're not sure we've ever seen it before in any amx of any color. The high-back buckets are expertly upholstered with factory-style patterns and materials, and the door panels have vertical pleats that match. Plenty of woodgrained details make it feel expensive and upscale inside, including the shiny burled walnut on the center console. The original gauges have been restored, the a/c blows cold, and the rim-blow horn works as advertised. There's even a decent-sized trunk out back, which includes a correct mat and space-saver spare. Speaking of performance, it's delivered by amc's top powerplant, a 390 cubic inch v8 with 325 horsepower, enough to make the amx one of the most potent machines on the road in 1970. Sharply detailed for show, it wears correct turquoise metallic engine paint, chrome valve covers, and a functional ram air air cleaner. I'm of the opinion that the two-seat bodywork works really well, with an aggressive, pugnacious look that reeks of horsepower. On the road, folks might try to get close to see the amx badges and figure out what it is, but the rear end with its wide-set taillights is unmistakable. There's plenty of chrome, all of it in good to excellent condition, although the restoration is now a few years old. Amc wasn't even pretending this was a 2+2 and just did away with the back seat altogether. With two buckets, the all-black interior is intimate but clearly driver-oriented. The center-mounted radio is a cool throwback to the earliest days of automotive entertainment systems, although at some point it has been upgraded to an am/fm/cassette head unit. We're inclined to believe that the interior is mostly original, and with that in mind, the seats only show mild signs of use and the carpets are in surprisingly good condition. The steering wheel has a few cracks but the design is very cool and there's even a good-sized trunk with its original mat and space-saver spare, plus a ton of storage behind the seats. Power comes from amc's top-of-the-line 390, which made 325 horsepower in the amx. Augmented by an edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and matching aluminum intake manifold, it's a torquey powerplant that makes the amx one of the most potent cars of the era. The engine bay is neatly dressed in appropriate finishes and colors, including corporate turquoise paint on the block itself. A few chrome pieces add some sparkle and the condition of the inner fenders is more evidence that this car led an easy life in a warm climate. It's backed by the aforementioned 4-speed manual transmission that delivers snappy shifts up and down and makes the most of the 390's generous torque curve. Great colors are a big help, but it also includes goodies like a z-code 343 typhoon v8 and an expensive restoration. Unlike most of the other pony cars, amc's entry was strictly a 2-seater, making the amx somewhat of an anomaly. For that reason alone it should be highly collectable, but for reasons we don't really understand, these great cars remain in the shadows of the other players. The bodywork was restored a few years ago, and with bright red paint and white stripes, the chunky amx looks fast and lean. Details like the chrome bumpers, rocker panel moldings, and special amx emblems are all in excellent condition and there are no deviations from stock specifications other than the high-quality workmanship, which wasn't always available at amc. The interior is really what sets the amx apart, both from the rest of the muscle car pack and from its siblings at amc. Far more upscale and aimed at a different audience, it uses funky plaid seat inserts to give it a sophisticated look that's perfect for the late 1960s. A console, some woodgrained details, and just two seats certainly make it exclusive and the restoration took care of most of the interior bits, too. The original am radio is still in the dash and the trunk is fitted with more black carpets and carries a full-sized spare tire. Amc didn't stamp vin's on their blocks back then, but this original t-code car definitely still houses a proper period-stamped drivetrain, that after inspection, leaves little doubt with us that this is a numbers matching car, even if a '68 amx can never truly be called as such. It looks fairly stock aside from the brightly colored ignition system components, and even carries a correct set of decals on the original air cleaner. Power steering and brakes, plus the rare but super fun shift command 3-speed automatic transmission, mean that this car is very user-friendly and the burly v8 sounds spectacular exhaling through a dual exhaust system with new mufflers.
